Two weeks in Greece (during the pandemic) | Part #2 - Meteora

Travel, Greece, Meteora2 min read

12 - 13 June (day 1-2)

Once we arrived in Meteora (around 22:00), we were really exhausted.

The first thing that we did was to check in at Hotel Pyrgos Adrachti and to find a place for dinner. We went to Vavitsas Restaurant, because it was maybe the only place that was opened at the time. To be honest, it was not something phenomenal. We ate some tarama and mousaka as fast as we can.

On the way back to the hotel, we had a spectacular view of just a small piece of the rock formation that was located just behind our hotel, as it turned out.

Pointed it out

13 June (day 2)

On the next day, we were well rested and ready for new adventures.

But first things first - we still hadn't seen Meteora rock formations illuminated by the sun.

The view was MAGNIFICENT!

What a view

The breakfast in Pyrgos Adrachti Hotel

The breakfast was served on the terrace with this incredible view. We had a really delicious omelette, the coffee was very good having in mind how rare it is to have access to an espresso machine at your stay.

On the way to the monasteries

The hosts at Pyrgos Adrachti Hotel were really nice. We had a quick chat with them about our trip and the places that we wanted to visit.

They gave us a map of Meteora and the surroundings and suggested which of the monasteries are worth visiting. Having in mind that we had to travel to Lefkada this same day, we were a bit 'in a hurry'. Thus, we decided to visit just one of the monasteries (the biggest one) - Holy Monastery of Megalo Meteoro - Transfiguration of the Savior.

The weather was perfect and we took some photos through the car windows:

It took us no more than 15 minutes (5-6 km) to get there. And there it is - Holy Monastery of Megalo Meteoro - Transfiguration of the Savior.

There are a lot of historical details around the monasteries.

We walked around to visit the museum section of the monastery and also to check the incredible views available to the tourists.

I decided to give a chance to my new drone - DJI Mini 2 Combo. I've made several videos and photos, which were obviously not so successful, but I was pretty excited and delighted from the overall experience.

Here is one of my first experimental photos:

Pretty awkward, right? :)

Bye, bye, Meteora

According to our plan, we should spend the night in Lefkada. We couldn't afford to spend more time on this magnificent place.

So, it is time to load in the car and to head to our next destination - Lefkada.
